Raw food diet 30 day trial - Day 1

Hurray, I made it to the end of my very first day of the raw food diet 30 day trial.

I woke up this morning feeling tired but very positive and happy that I'm finally starting the diet.

I feel great that I've passd the first day, it hasn't been easy and if I wasn't writing this blog I would have given in on more than one occasion today, I really wanted some chocolate and a lucozade or a coke.

One of the main things I've learned today is that it's really important to plan when food shopping and to think ahead of time what  I am going to eat each day.

It got to about 2pm today, I was so hungry and I just couldn't think what I could possibly do with the food I had on hand. I thought I'd bought enough fruit and vegetables for a few days but it has disappeared very quickly.

Have placed an order today for an organic fruit delivery, I've never had organic fruit delivered before so I have no idea how much I'm going to get and how long it will last. I am planning on visiting some wholesale organic fruit sellers next week, hopefully that will work out a bit more economical.

Before I had any food or drink I took the following measurements, I'll weigh myself daily and measure myself once a week.

Weight: 142.8 lbs

Chest: 34 inches, 86.4cm

Waist: 33 inches, 83.8cm

Abdomen (at widest part): 37.9 inches, 96.3cm

Hips: 36.6 inches, 93cm

Breakfast

This morning when I got up I drank 500ml of water then I had a smoothie made up of 4 bananas and 150g of celery which Sean loved and a  150g of grapes.

A few hours later I started to feel really hungry so I had 3 plums.   One of the reasons that I have gotten into this rut in the first place is that around 1pm I am thinking about what my son can eat and I never manage to get both of our lunches sorted at the same time so I end up not having anything and then resorting to chocolate.   I did exactly the same thing today so lunch passed and I didn't eat  anything.   I was so hungry, that I couldn't even think straight so  my lunch ended up being very basic and definately not enough.

 Lunch

500ml water and 250g of grapes

As my lunch wasn't very filling I was hungry pretty quickly so I had 3.5 plums and I finally got around to making myself some food.

Dinner

150g celery, 250g tomatoes, 350g cucumber and a tablespoon of ime juice.   It was pretty good, I was suprised that I was able to eat the celery as I don't like it too much but with all the other flavours it was actually ok.   It took me about 1   hour to eat it as there was so much there, I later relised that it only contained just over 100 calories. So I had to make myself a second dinner in order for me to make up my calories for the day.

Dinner 2

500g mango with a tablespoon of lime juice and a banana smoothie which contained 4 bananas.

Throughout the day I've been recording what I ate on www.nutridiary.com, see the results below.   I'll record them every day throughout the trial.

Raw food diet conclusions

I'm feeling pretty happy with how it went today, I have some lessons to learn but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it over the next 30 days.   I've been feeling pretty tired today so  I had a 30 minute power nap at about 5pm which has helped me get through the rest of the day.   Have also had a dull headache today, I'm expecting it to get worse before it gets better due to the amount of caffeine I've been drinking this year.

My totals for the raw food diet today were as follows: Calories 1690, Fibre 51g, Carbohydrates 430g,  Protein  25g and Fats 7g.

My  percentage totals for the raw food diet were: Carbohydrates 91%, Protein 5% and Fat 4%
